Welcome, L.A. Times readers

We got a nice mention in the Times today.

For those of you who are new to the site, the menu bar at the top of the screen breaks everything out into categories. If you want to search for particular topics, SEARCH is to the right.

Of special note is our forum, which is our general discussion area for all things screenwriting. You can access it through the menubar, the link under the search box or…hell…

…just go here to register. Like everything else on this site, it’s cost-free and ad-free.

So go ahead, look around. Kick the tires.

I’ll have a new article up later about the Writers Guild…and for the first time in a long time, it’s going to be a positive one.

Cool. Link to the article?

“”The whole purpose of starting this thing was to get them while they are young,”

Doesn’t the tobacco industry use the same strategy…?

Snarky, I know.

Thanks for doing this. It’s great to see experienced writers helping to support us clueless upstarts…

Uh oh…another Tim.

Is there any way to read the article without registering to the website?

Hi.

I am THE Tim Talbott.

I am told, quite oftenly, that I am awesome.

So I have no choice but to believe it.

Despite what Craig or Ted says, it is I that rules this site.

I rule it.

I do.

So, if you have any questions about the site or its contents, don’t ask me.

Because I exist in a rarified world.

A perfect realm filled with lollipops and rainbows and unrewritten screenplays “authored” by Josh Olsan.

And we sit and we laugh and we cry and cajole and we speak down to each and every louse who deigns to try and communicate with us.

But mostly we hug.

Tightly.

But welcome.

We’re happy that you’re here, Brother.

Unless you have a vagina.

In which case we’ll heretofor refer to you as “slit-ridden miser-bitches.”

Thank you.

And doG bless.

Nick:

Try typing “LA Times Scriptland” into a Google search. There should be a link to “Stephen King: King of the Adaptations” (as well as a link about what a bad idea “Scriptland” is, how the development of a screenplay has no effect on the success of a movie).

Anyway, when you’ve finished reading about Mr. King, click the “Scriptland” hyperlink in the related articles box and, viola, it’s the top story. You don’t have to register, but Google will retain your search deatils.

Happy hunting.

Or read yesterday’s paper.

This cracked me up - “The endless response threads often read like bar fights.”

“It’s nice to be able to empower them with some information and with our particular philosophy.” - And I thank you for it!

Nick Miller said:

Thanks.

I guess, having thought about it, the fights are probably a good thing. Seeing A-Listers brawl is better than anything you’ll read in a screenplay magazine.

More fights please.

nice site you have, thanks for sharing, have a look at http://badmovieknights.com/ when you get time :>

Did you know what happens if you type TIM TALBOTT and SCRIPTLAND into a Google search?

The results might surprise you.

I was surprised. George W. Bush’s official biography came up.

I am new to this site but this is really amazing. Or A-Mazin! Mr. Mazin, you seem so knowledgeable about movies it is almost scary. And your opinions seem so on the money. As jaded as I am, it is refreshing to find an oasis of reason such as this site amdist the ocean of mindless drivel in this keyboard driven cb-radio world that is the internet.

Thank you so much for setting up this site and spending so much of your valuable time sharing your insights and facilitating a community where writers can share their craft with one another.

You may never win an Oscar for Scary Movie 3 or the like(although you should, others have won for less…), but nonetheless, you deserve one for this site!

Keep up the great work!

Craig Mazin said:

Mike:

Thanks. And there’s no need for the word “may” in “may never win an Oscar.” My fate is sealed. :)

Did anyone see “Mr. Brooks”? Just saw it last night and was interested in what people thought. I’ll save my thoughts for now.

And sorry if this is the wrong place to post. I’m sure others will politely steer me in the right direction if not. ;)

Craig, this isn’t very sexy for your new readers.

And it doesn’t emphasize the “forums” enough, which are the best thing about your site.

Fix it.
